So, our buddy Coby Gewertz, publisher of the reet “CHURCH: Cars Not Culture” books, has just released his latest and it’s a very special edition. Apparently, his dad – an avid drags guy from way back – had promised a young Coby his box full of old drag racing photos and it’s taken him till just recently to actually find said box. The result is a published collection of never-before seen images of the famed Fremont Drag Strip from the mid-Sixties.
As soon as we got this latest from Coby, we ran down to Bruno Gianoli’s shop to get an opinion from a guy who was actually at the races when most of the shots were taken. Reviewing the book from the same shop the Gotelli rail was built in, Bruno gave us a play-by-play on what was going on at the track when Bob Gewertz was snapping off these amazing shots of his old friends.
While you may not be able to drink Blue Frosties at Bruno’s and listen to how good the good old days really were, you can at least order a copy of the latest CHURCH book (here). Get it, kids – it’s worth every bit the scant few bucks it’ll run you.
