EARLY INFLUENCES

If you read any custom car magazines as a kid, you’ll remember these ads plastered just about EVERYWHERE – promising an easy and carefree career in “customizing” by just “spending an hour or two a day” with the most magical and amazing do-it-yourself kit ever made available.

No wonder there’s such a surge in hot rods and customs these days. Every guy in his thirties probably drank the proverbial Kool-Aid the Customizing Center was handing out. And if you actually sent in for the Full Color Customizing Brochure, please please please please send one to us. I’m almost afraid to actually see what one of them things looks like. Probably printed on fairy skin vellum with lead-based ink.

  1. Dude, I remember this ad, and did respond…too bad I didn’t keep the brochure they sent as an education aid. It was so lousy, I actually threw it out after reading it–even back then, I realized I learned more by customizing model cars, than I could from this pamphlet of an education tool!
